What are the benefits of collaging with children?
As children develop at different rates it can be challenging to create an arts and craft activity that caters for all the children’s skills. Collaging is a great activity for early learners to have experience in, as it encourages them to think “critically and creatively" (ACARA, 2011, p.2).
As children are using scissors and glue throughout this activity, they develop hand coordination by holding, feeling, cutting and pasting different materials. Furthermore they start to develop problem-solving skills by determining where to place the objects, which “involves imagination and experimentation” (ACARA, 2011, p.3).
Collaging also promotes children to become actively involved and engaged in the activity as well as with one another.
